ናዝሬት የሕፃናት ማዕከልና ልማት ድርጅት (ናሕማልድ)

In order to achieve its objectives and realize its vision and mission, NACID has embarked on various development projects in its operation areas. Now it has numerous project centers in six regional states, in Addis Ababa, Afar, Amahara, Oromira, SNNPRS and Tigray.

Background

NACID is a non-government, non-political and non-profit humanitarian organization established to run a center for orphans in Nazareth and to carry out integrated community development.

Establishment

The organization was initiated in 1989 in response to save the lives of children who lost their parents during the disastrous famine of 1984-1985.

Empowering Our Community

The center which started with the care of orphaned children soon began to address the needs of deprived rural and urban communities.

Promoting Well-Being

To that end, it opened an elementary school. Established a clinic and drilled numerous deep-water wells

Vision

NACID envisages economically and socially self-reliant and self-managing communities; where there is no want for basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, medication, clothing and schooling; communities with adequately & effectively protected environment.

Mission

NACID is child focused, family oriented, community-initiated development partner, committed to promote rehabilitation and proper protection of the environment

NACID’s Principal Objectives Include:

  • Build the capacity of communities through training, education, health and family development programs
  • Alleviate poverty through micro-financing and employment generating schemes
  • Rehabilitate and manage the environment through resource conservation and environmental protection programs

Organization and management

NACID’s overall powers and responsibilities are divided between the policy making and the executive bodies.

The board which consists of seven members, issues policies and makes major decisions while the executive body headed by the Director executes those policies and decisions. The staff is composed of competent and multidisciplinary professionals.

Source of funding

Funding is our major problem. Given their global donor fatigue, raising fund is becoming increasingly difficult.

We would therefore appreciate partnering with donors who would be interested in carrying out development activities in Ethiopia. Partnership could take any form.
